Celebrating students who are building bright futures

Ameek Kaur

Ameek Kaur is a second-year medical student at Carle Illinois College of Medicine, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. With a background in Data Science from UC Berkeley, Ameek's journey into medicine combines technical expertise with a commitment to compassionate care.

Her passion for integrating technology with healthcare has been a driving force throughout her academic and professional career. During her undergraduate studies, Ameek worked at the Dudoit Lab, where she developed a tool to normalize DNA chromatin conformation datasets and contributed to a publication in Cell Reports Methods.

Ameek was also one of only two students selected nationwide for the OB/GYN SCORE Program at Kaiser Permanente, where she conducted research in gynecology and further connected her interests in technology and medicine.

Her dedication to underserved communities is reflected in her work as a Health Advocate at Highland Hospital and her volunteer service at the Avicenna Women's Health Clinic. She helps patients access essential services and supports uninsured patients seeking cervical cancer screenings and other medical care.

Ameek has also created and distributed important health resources in Punjabi, helping address health disparities through culturally responsive education. Inspired by Mata Khivi Ji's legacy of selfless service, she hopes to pursue Obstetrics and Gynecology and later specialize in Gynecologic Oncology, with a focus on women's health equity and earlier cancer detection.

Ranbeer Singh

Ranbeer Singh is a first-year medical student at Touro University pursuing a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree. He graduated from UC Davis with a Bachelor of Science in Cell Biology and a minor in Education after beginning college at age 16.

His path toward medicine was shaped by helping his grandfather navigate health challenges and translate medical information into Punjabi. That experience showed him how language, culture, and belief systems can influence a patient's understanding of care.

While volunteering as a medical telescribe at RotaCare Bay Area, Ranbeer encountered similar communication barriers among Latino and Asian communities. These experiences strengthened his commitment to culturally competent, accessible healthcare.

Ranbeer co-founded the Guru Harkrishan Medical Clinic at Fremont Gurdwara to help create an environment where patients feel heard and understood. He hopes to become a physician who strengthens human connection while addressing gaps in the medical system.

Maylin Gonzalez

Maylin Sanchez Gonzalez is a junior at Long Beach State University pursuing a career in Criminal Justice. As the oldest of three children and the first generation in her family to pursue a professional career, her academic journey represents an important milestone for her family.

Transferring from a community college to a university has given Maylin a broader perspective and renewed motivation to build her skills and pursue her goals. She also enjoys indoor volleyball and coaches students in grades 3 through 12.

Muskaan Kaur

Muskaan Kaur is a rising junior at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy in Aurora, Illinois, where she pursues interests in political justice, economics, and public speaking through Model UN, congressional debate, and the LEAD club.

Beyond academics, Muskaan balances soccer and tennis with an internship at Umeed Hope, an organization providing legal and mental health resources to survivors of domestic violence. This work has deepened her understanding of social justice and comprehensive support systems.

Muskaan also pursued her interest in writing through a Harvard journalism course supported in large part by A Little Happiness Foundation, USA. The experience strengthened her interviewing, breaking-news, and research skills while showing her how careful preparation supports compelling journalism.

Her academic, athletic, advocacy, and writing experiences reflect her commitment to becoming a thoughtful leader and community advocate.

Saran Jolly

Saran Jolly, a senior from North Carolina, is passionate about dance, environmental causes, and playing the harmonium. Eager to expand her skills, she enrolled in a journalism course to explore new ways of addressing important issues.

The course helped Saran approach serious topics with authenticity and depth while strengthening her research abilities. These skills have inspired her to begin projects that raise awareness about environmental issues important to her.

Raunak Kaur

Raunak Kaur is a dedicated student with a strong interest in international law and finance. Her commitment to positive impact is reflected in her community service and engagement with complex global issues.

To strengthen her research and writing, Raunak enrolled in a journalism course that transformed her approach to interviewing, investigation, and storytelling. Hands-on learning with accomplished professionals sparked a new enthusiasm for journalism and expanded the skills she can bring to her future studies.

Bani Kaur

Bani Kaur is a third-year human biology student at UC Davis who aspires to become a physician. Her goal was shaped by healthcare disparities she observed in the Punjabi community while volunteering at the Sri Guru Harkrishan Clinic at Fremont Gurdwara.

Bani encourages students to develop study methods that fit their individual learning styles. She values careful textbook reading, rewatching lectures, and pursuing meaningful passion projects that demonstrate commitment and broad interests.

Although the breadth of material in human biology can be challenging, Bani sees each subject as part of a larger understanding of the human body and preparation for medical school.

She has participated in SALDEF's SikhLEAD program, interned for Assemblymember James Gallagher, and serves as president of the Bhagat Puran Singh Health Initiative at UC Davis, which organizes free medical clinics at Gurdwaras. Her journey reflects the value of purposeful study, diverse experiences, and service to community.

Sachnoor Kaur

Sachnoor Kaur is a first-year student at the University of California, Irvine, studying biological sciences with a focus on genetics. She plans to become a genetics researcher and pursue a PhD in the field.

Before beginning college, Sachnoor participated in a UC Davis pre-college pre-med program that strengthened her interest in genetics research. Her academic achievements, leadership experience, and determination position her to contribute meaningfully to the field and inspire other students to pursue ambitious goals.

Harbani Kaur

Harbani Kaur is a fourth-year computer science student at UC Berkeley. Her interest in technology began with coding classes in high school and has grown into research focused on Artificial Intelligence and Large Language Models.

Her work explores how biases in training data can affect AI-generated language. Harbani hopes to help reduce those biases so communities, including the Sikh community, are represented more accurately and fairly.

Harbani encourages younger students to identify genuine interests and pursue experiences that distinguish their journeys. For her, these included learning to play the dilruba and participating in a NASA internship during high school.

She remains committed to computer science research and to creating a positive, responsible impact through technology.
